I'm normally not one for bonus tracks, or early demo versions of songs. But for whatever reason I find myself quite enjoying the studio run through version of "Gates" that's on the 2003 remastered version of Relayer. It's far less intense(the battle section doesn't have any of the sound effects), and very rough around the edges, but it has a certain charm to it that appeals to me. I like the way it ends too, by reprising the theme from the battle section and then ending abruptly. It gives good insight into how the song evolved, and shows what perfectionists the band were at the time.
