So I have been on a Yes binge lately and I have been working on appreciating Relayer more. I've always loved Gates of Delirium, obviously, because it's really awesome, but I've struggled with Sound Chaser and to a lesser extent, To Be Over. Well I think I'm starting to get over that some. Sound Chaser is so ridiculous and ugly in a great way that I can't help but admire it. To Be Over is just gorgeous. I mean, I can see it being boring if I'm not in the mood for it, but it is so relaxing! But yeah, it's not as good as And You And I. I listened to the Steven Wilson remix of the album, and I'm not sure it's really an improvement. There's nothing on it that bothers me, but the album still sounds pretty brittle and shrill to me. I've always disliked the production/recording quality on Relayer so I think that is still going to be a sticking point for me. Oh how I wish it had the sound of Fragile. I listened to the original Gates, the remixed one, and then the live version from Yesshows all in a row this morning during my long-ass commute. I don't regret it! |
