I've been giving Zappa another chance since listening to the latest D&R. [side note: you guys have a way of throwing me off my current trajectory and making me listen to each artist you cover. It's quite annoying; and I mean that as a compliment!]
Zappa probably holds the distinction of being the artist I know the most about for having heard comparatively little of his work. I feel like I could describe the majority of his albums just from having read all the Zappa pages in the old WRC countless times, but I've only heard Freak Out! and Hot Rats, neither of which really clicked with me back in the day. I'm happy to report my appreciation for both has grown, but I did have a question:
Are there any Zappa albums for which your appreciation has grown significantly since having written your page, John? I'm particularly curious because I know you've become more of a 'jazz guy' over the years.
I plan on running the gauntlet anyway, but figured I'd ask!
