I'm not quite with John on that take either, but nothing but respect to him for putting it out there. I have complicated feelings on Murder Most Foul. It's definitely not an unpleasant experience to sit through, and if I could ascribe the same degree of intentionality to it that John does I feel like I'd love it, but ehn...if I had to put money on it I'd have to say I think it's mostly an elaborate put on. Which might be fine, except the sheer clunkiness of lines like He said, "Wait a minute, boys, you know who I am?" "Of course we do, we know who you are" Then they blew off his head while he was still in the car gives me "Joey" flashbacks, and that's never a good thing. That being said, John made BY FAR the best case for the song that I've heard and I'll have to listen to it again to see if I can hear it with that mindset. |
