I have just read your review on the 1940 recording of Rite of Spring, with the composer conducting the new York "Philharmonic-Symphony Orchestra"(as I believe it was called back then, as the two orchestras had recently merged).
Very nice comments and insights. I particularly liked the quotes from Debussy (“primitive music with every modern convenience") and Boulez ("rehearsing “The Rite” was “like driving on ice”"). If you can, could you let me know where you found these quotes? I thought I had seen them all!
