Ok these three consecutive late classic-period Procol Harum albums are all rather different but in terms of quality they are in a dead heat for me. Broken Barricades (guitar-oriented/Trower's last album, includes "Simple Sister") vs. Grand Hotel (lush and hilariously mock-pretentious w BJ Wilson's best drumming imo) vs. Exotic Birds and Fruit (triumphant-sounding piano pop with some sillier moments as well, includes "As Strong as Samson"). Sometimes I think I'd call whatever I had just listened to the best. Further headache-inducing for me is that all three hug the 7/8 border pretty hard. Deep down I think EBaF is the best then GH then BB but not really sure. What do y'all think?
