The last surviving member of Badfinger has passed. His contributions to Badfinger albums like "I Can Love You" and "Love Time" were often overlooked gems, and for all the accusations of Badfinger ripping off the Beatles there are actually multiple examples of Molland's songs actually doing stuff before ex-Beatles did ("I'd Die Babe" --> "Mrs. Vandebilt" and "Suitcase" --> "Woman Don't You Cry for Me"). And there's plenty of good stuff even when just he and Tom Evans carried on with the band on Airwaves (e.g. "Love Is Gonna Come at Last") and Say No More. Found his most recent solo album Be True to Yourself in a record store last spring and I must say it was one of the biggest positive surprises I've ever had listening to an album, so if you're a Badfinger fan definitely give it a listen. RIP, Joey. |
