This message board is in support of members of the Marine Corps and their relatives, and friends
James (Jim) Douglas Barton Jr. USMC known to us as Dittychaser.
From posts I read, I could feel that Jim was a real caring person.
Here's a poem he wrote;
Let's Roll
When Death's breath falls
On the faces of the brave
Who answer Freedom's call, "Let's roll"
When buildings fall upon themselves,
Not of their own volition but
Of destruction designed by evil
Then are heroes born.
As images stark and fear-filled,
Of sorrow, courage and compassion
Saturate mind and heart and soul
When they who knew the sight and smell
Of blood spilt over broken bones
Make offer of self again
So are heroes known.
As the dead are mourned and
Saviors battle to recover
Remnant of life or hope
When those now bearing Nation's shield
In righteous anger and private fear
Now outwardly calm make ready
So are heroes born.
As senses revisit youth and war,
And stench and bilious taste renew
Memories of life excised, denied
As struggles with pride and fear
Bring tumult, turmoil and unshed tears
To those who guide our course
Then are heroes known.
As some cry "Vengeance" and
Gentler (or more timid) souls seek words to say
"Amen! Let slip the dogs of war, yet not today"
While destiny seeks itself yet finds
No noble discourse nor heart forgiving,
For reason seems to fail and patience dims
Yet now are heroes born.
And always there will be those few
Who stand and answer Freedom's call,
"Let's roll"
Dittychaser
A few things I've chosen to honor his memory;
HIS EPITAPH.
Here rests his head upon the lap of Earth
A Youth to Fortune and to Fame unknown.
Fair Science frown'd not on his humble birth,
And Melancholy mark'd him for her own.
Large was his bounty, and his soul sincere,
Heav'n did a recompense as largely send:
He gave to Mis'ry all he had, a tear,
He gain'd from Heav'n ('twas all he wish'd) a friend.
No farther seek his merits to disclose,
Or draw his frailties from their dread abode,
(There they alike in trembling hope repose,) The bosom of his Father and his God.
Thomas Gray
Time and Eternity
AMPLE make this bed.
Make this bed with awe;
In it wait till judgment break
Excellent and fair.
Be its mattress straight, \
Be its pillow round;
Let no sunrise’ yellow noise
Interrupt this ground.
Emily Dickinson
I know that he would have liked these from the Sermon on the Mount;
Beatitudes
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me.
Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Ask, Seek, and Knock
Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
Or what man is there among you who, when his son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he?
If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!
Marines, are made up from all types of men and women, some are out-spoken and some are quite but they all have one thing in common; love of nation.
It was with this thought I was thinking when I decided to make this post.
TO THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES
THAT OTHERS MAY SAY PROUDLY
I AM A MARINE
