My Blog Message for November 2009

There are three important days in this month; starting with the 234th Marine Corps Birthday, that's followed by Veterans Day than we have Thanksgiving Day.
As a Marine, the Corps birthday is an important day, that reminds us of all those who have carried the title of a United States Marine and the responsibility that it carries.
One is never and ex-marine or former marine, if one commits a crime and he did service in the Corps.
The headlines will read 'Marine commits crime' not ex or former marine.
Veteran Day on 11 November use to be a memorial to those who gave their life's in World War I and we used to hold a moment of silence at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11 month of the year.
Now, it's more like honoring the living veterans of all our wars as opposed to Memorial Day that now is a memorial to our dead from all our wars, but some even use it to honor their own kin's dead.
What might we be 'Thankful' on Thanksgiving Day?
Thankful for all our blessings, family and neighbors and friends.
We might also be thankful that this nation seems to be recovering, home sales and industry 3rd quarter sales seem to be on an upswing.
We might also say a prayer for all those now in harm's way in the service of this great nation.
Yet, they're just 1% of our total population.
I'll close this with something from John Cory;
No one owes anything more or less.
A promise kept - duty, honor, and country.

Let us plant gardens of stone
In this sandbox of war
And irrigate the furrows with tears.
Let us grind marrow to meal
Between bullets and pavement
And moisten the noonday soil with blood.
Let us whisper their names on the wind
Then watch them swirl like orphans
Blown by devils and dust.
Let us speak in silence
Let us turn away
Never make us face them
Please just let us pray.
We've paid no price
But feel their pain
Now let us pray
Just to forget.
Oh no, my friend
Let us pray
For our souls
Shamed by our sins of omission.
It is they who have paid the price
With a pound of flesh
And a ton of pain
So go ahead and pray
Just pray
That you never forget.
