That means, I took part in what is known as the 'Missiles of October'.
Years removed, I learn it would be as close as we would come to a nuclear war.
I think we rate a certificate, not a combat ribbon.
But we answered the call.
My recon platoon was four hours from entering Cuba.
Years after in 1963-1965, I would be a member of Bravo 3rd Recon.
Only the lack of NCOs kept me from serving as a Recon Marine in Vietnam.
I was transfer to India/3/4, the rest is history.
