Another week of our heatwave this week. The temperatures were ridiculously high. It did get cooler at night, though, which is nice when starting the next morning.
It was a confusing, busy week w/ the generator being worked on, getting too hot, both guys having virtual Drs. appts., making other appts. (Dh has to see his cardiologist, because it's time for them to test his defibrillator. It has to be done periodically.), and lots of other little things, which added up.
We took from March until now to have 10 local corona deaths, though the cases are going up every day, but this week we had 5 deaths. A Dr. that we know said that he's concerned because he has a corona patient in critical condition on a ventilator, and they are only 30.
Plus, they shut down our county offices for taxes, the place where Ds takes maps when he makes them after a survey, etc. when someone working there was exposed. They finally found that a woman working in one of the offices tested positive. Unfortunately, she passed away. I am kind of glad that Ds had to take time off due to his back, rather than being in the office having maps filed.
My upright freezer is back on, and I am looking forward to putting food in it, making it easier to preserve food, have meals ready to eat, and save money.
The Kitty Kampers had ants yesterday! It must be the heat, as they never have ants. We have tried feeding the cats multiple times a day, and less per time, but they just want to eat leisurely. When we give them a set time to eat and remove the food too soon, they lose weight. Since at least one has to be in their later teens to 20's, I have to allow them to take the time that they need.
So, we washed everything down, and I am getting some ant stuff today. It's supposedly not harmful, but I'll put it out of the cats' way anyway. The only time that we had to use anything like it, was about 10 years ago when we brought back ants from the lake in our stuff. I'd never seen them there before. Anyway, I used this anti-ant stuff, and I've not had any since. I hope that it works as well this time.
Every year, around late spring, Dh goes to a place at Homestead Creek, which is the one which goes by my house, and digs an area deeper, then makes a bank around it to make a kind of little pool for when the water isn't running.
The pool gives the salamanders etc. a place to live all summer. Well, the other day, for the first time in all these years, the bank was torn down. So, he rebuilt it. Then, it was torn down again.
We finally think, after examining the damage, that the mother bear with the twins is still around, and that they probably wanted a drink, or to play in it. So, he'll keep fixing it for the critters in it, and hopefully they will go down to the year round creek after this. If you'll recall, Ds and a kid who was working here with us, maybe 4 years ago, went down to the fields for something, and startled a large bear that was sleeping in the treeline of that creek in the summer. Luckily for them, the bear leaped into the creek and swam across it. Had it been a mother bear, she might have made a different choice. So, they do like to go down there when it's hot.
Uhura has taken to hanging out under the deck since it's gotten hot. Since it's cooler under the house, that may be why. And, while she's there, she lies in wait for someone to walk by, so that she can leap out and look hungry. You never know, it might work, and she'll get a meal or snack. And, with it mostly being Dh, the cat whisperer, it almost always works. Spoiled kitty!
Up until now, Ds's mini-me has been eating great. She loves cereal, bananas, peas, sweet potatoes, and carrots. Not so much butternut squash. But, I forgot to mention that I didn't feed them broccoli this young, and Ds made some for her. To say that she loathed it, was being kind! Ah well, parent and learn!
For the first time, I got my compounded medication in a 3 month amount, which was supposed to save me a lot of money on it, since it's not covered under our insurance. But, the compounder wasn't there, and a regular counter worker rang it up, which was a savings, but not the one that I was supposed to get. So, this morning I'm calling, and hoping that the compounder will be there, so that it can be straightened out.
It will be a nice savings, and I really like having more than one month worth of any given medication in the house.
Well, that's all from here. How was your week?
