The bills - I have a tiny piece of land along with my main property and am taxed on both - were both paid on the 3rd of Nov. Yesterday I realized the larger bill has not been cashed. In fact it is being returned to me and I am receiving a refund?
Apparently an tax assessor looked at the plat of my property and discovered I owed taxes on three properties.
WHAT????? Since I haven't left my property except for 30 minutes at my Drs office - I asked when they had come out. They hadn't.
This added another bit of property to my original two. Plus they changed the numbers of my properties. I went from 9-10 to 7-8 or maybe visa versa. WHAT??????
Then there was a problem with my getting a homestead exemption. Because my son's name was on my property I could not get that exemption as it had to be only me - being over 65.
There is a solution allowing her to making a change in the tax office which is a called "Retain a life Estate." Which would give me the Homestead Exemption and remove Boys name from the deed as owner. This meant the property was mine until I died then it automatically became my son's property. We were going to have that done anyway... so if it will reduce my taxes fine.
THe problem is the Title Company also has to make the change officially which involves lawyers. And a new Plat drawn up which is very risky from what I was told. The question I have is why was my property reassessed to begin with. And WHO asked that it be done?
This also affects my Dept of H&H paperwork I am working on. I must have all this paperwork to them by Dec 8th.
This morning after to talking to boy and sending him all the deed and tax etc info and photos of forms --my BP is through the roof. So I took my BP med. Dang i. I just had to vent. Particularly since one of my down hill neighbors looked at my back yard and said, "Well it is too wide."
WHAT??????
SO now I have to get a lawyer to clean this mess up. My property is 100 percent fenced - which means this property has been enclosed for a LONNNG TIME!
Any good thoughts would be welcome. And prayers that this is the last of the utter chaos that will be hitting me not only this year, but next year as well.
I need to do laundry to work off my stress. LOL Laboring always worked for me. Using my hand crank washer is a true benefit.

An additional problem is that this also has to be done through the title company.
