I didn't know that they could change it, as they have with yours, without you being involved. I don't think that they can, at least not here. It could be a Tx vs. Calif. thing, or even county by county.

It does sound like taking Ds's name off of the property until it's given to him by will is the best choice, for your reduction in taxes.

I know that Texas property laws tend to be different than our laws, so probably can't offer much advice.
The only way to absolutely settle it, would probably be through a survey, but that's expensive, and you don't know if the result will benefit you anyway. But, if someone tries to take a piece of your property, maybe you can see if they would have to prove it, if you are contesting it.
