I am reading a book called "Retribution> by D.V. Berkdom.
I have read several of her books and have always enjoyed them. I am a bit into this book, but I am really just getting started on the main caharacter's story. Claire was a pioneer woman from Pennsylvania who moved to CO with her husband and three children. They were homesteaders and making a go of it until maruaders made up to look like Indians massacred her family and burned down her house. They had intended to kill her, but she was able to get here rifle and kill one of them. When she was examine the dead man, she realized he was not an Indian, but a white man with face paint and Indian clothing. She ended up being accused of killing her family and would have been railroaded had the local sheriff not believed her story and set out to help her. It seems the local banker wanted their claim and set the whole massacre up. At the point where I am, she has just killed the banker and is heading to a new home. I will see where this goes. I do like it, and the killing is not detailed so it is just a steted fact.
