Oh, great idea about the Thermos, for coffee, and soup!
I have a warmer that you might also like to look into after all this is over. It's cloth, but filled with a straw or other filling, depending where you get it. It's sort of round, pumpkin shaped, and has a drawstring on top.
Because it gets so cold in my house, 55 last night inside, I use it all the time. If I make rice, etc. we put the pot inside, and it stays hot for a very long time.
Some people get food started, maybe to a boil, then put it into this item, and it continues cooking. Campers use it these days.
Anyway, you could heat soup, mac 'n cheese, or anything, and it would stay hot after the power goes back off. Just a thought.
I use mine when it's not cold, too, because of not having enough burners at this time. If I am having something over rice, for example, I can make the rice first, put it in the warmer, then make the other part of the dinner, and both will still be hot when it's dinner time. And, it doesn't get any more low tech than this. No appliance at all.
I'm glad that the kids have water in jugs.
I don't have a cell phone out, but will pass that along to Ds, thanks.
Yes, the power grid in Texas is already a source of controversy.
We're here thinking of you, and praying for all who are affected by the weather.
