Ds is planning the baby's 1st birthday cake, which got me wondering about birthday cakes in general.
Did someone make your birthday cakes when you were growing up, or were they from a bakery?
Was there a particular kind that you got each year?
What about children of your own?
When I was very small, my mother bought a decorated sheet cake...very pretty ones...at a neighborhood bakery, but soon changed to making them herself.
I can't recall getting a certain kind, until I decided that I wanted pecan pie, instead of cake, and had them for years.
Only one of my children had the same cake year after year, which was strawberry, which changed to carrot cake with cream cheese frosting.
The others just picked whatever they wanted each year. With Ds, the emphasis was on the color of the frosting and what was on top. His first birthday cake has blue frosting and animals on top.
How about you?
