always made our cakes. I don't remember even seeing ones made at a bakery or in the grocers until later in life. Mine was always chocolate.

I did store bought for a long time...I'd check their styles and get what they had requested in decorations. Usually they wanted chocolate...but as they grew their tastes changed. Kenny would rather have pie or ice cream cake. Kara and Curt preferred German sweet chocolate, but the bakery resisted that because the icing is too difficult to decorate on. So I started do their cakes as they got older and even tried ice cream cake. Of course pie for Kenny was easy...whatever flavor he wanted. More and more it was chocolate cream pie. But, he asked for fruit pies often, too. Kara still wants German sweet chocolate So I've found ways to decorate those, ever if it means making flowers ahead of time. And I've been able to do themed cakes for the grandkids...legos to carousels and palaces. It's all a lot of fun! Now, of course the grandkids are getting older and I'll have to wait for great-grands!!
