Any series that has offshoots of simple beginning reader books works for us. I read them first then we read them together. We do the same thing with the Tucker Mouse & Harry the Cat series. Level 1 My Readers which are based on the 7 George Sheldon & Garth Williams books. Those have me weeping as I read them. LOL We have already decided they will be the next books we will read together.
We have added in a new step which is that after I read a chapter in the Borrowers for example, I ask her questions about the characters and the plot. Her foster mother and I agree that mostly she is being soothed by my voice. But she laughs at funny parts. So though she maybe not following the story easily she gets the jokes/funny parts.
This is thrilling growth for me. Also I have to praise her coaches for she mimics their word usage and now talks with normal phrasing and slang. LOL I never thought I would be happy that she is using slang. Well done Daughter mine!
As for me - I am enjoying the books we are reading together. I have to admit the level 1 & 2 readers I only purchased in early 2019. I had the original stories previously. So in a short amount of time she has really improved her reading, comprehension skills.
Sorry needed to brag big time.
I also did something a long time ago and that was to give DD a motto just for her. Her's is Patience. And she refers to it all the time when she needs to remind herself of being patience. It has really helped since she can't come here as planned due to Covis.
But she also applies it to the fact that her wall TV/DVD player broke and she won't be able to have a new one till her b'day in Sept. She has to save up the money to buy it herself. Park of being a responsible adult. Ok enough already! LOL
As for me... I am reading the Amelia Peabody series but am so busy doing the spring cleaning I hadn't planned on doing to mid March. Alas and Alack! lol But I can only do one big project per day. So reading is when I go to bed at night or try for a nap. HA! I fall asleep in the middle of the first page I am reading. 8-( These books are going to take forever. LOL
I still haven't received notice of publication of the first NIGHT TALES Book by Nora Roberts. I am convinced that these 2 books vol 1 & 2 are the characters that she turned into the In Death characters. Lots of the names and traits - ok never mind - I've said this too many times.
I do want to see if the February 2021 In Death book is out. I can't believe its March. Sheesh!
Well off to have breakfast - food that a whole other posting. LOLOL
