Yes, prices are going up, and will cont. to, I've heard, because diesel prices are.
I'm not a happy either...details on Saturday, but my heater fuel cost me nearly 150. more this week, than in the beginning of January. That's a problem for the monthly food budget.
I pay $2 something normally, per gallon, it's now over $3. per gallon, and the driver of the fuel said to assume $5-6 a gallon by fall!!!! :-(
It has to do with a buying order which leaves us with less than we need here, and then that cost will be passed on to our goods, nationwide.
Anyway, that really took a bite out of everything, so....I was talking to Ds about that, and he has a similar problem. He will have a smaller than usual paycheck, because of too many days off.
We shopped for 5 weeks. It took a lot of energy and work, but it's nice later on. We have menus, and the food to make meals, until the 15th of this month...we shopped on the 8th.
What we were calculating, was...can we wait, and shop around the 1st-ish? We both think that we can manage it.
He has to go to the smaller healthfood store, maybe on Saturday, anyway. That's because of making a birthday cake. Normally, he is not shopping anywhere between shopping days. So, we were thinking that, while they are quite limited on what we use compared to a supermarket, if we get a few fresh items like veges, and he gets ddil a couple of items, such as milk, that we can get to the 1st without a problem. Also, Dh's new bread...he's out of it, will come in on Saturday, so that's excellent timing.
He is working today...thank goodness...but between now and Saturday, I will look in the freezer here at my meat, and what he keeps in the 'fridge freezer here, plus he will call me from home and tell me what he's got there, and I will scare up some meals around what we all have.
I actually dreamed a meal for them last night, lol! I was thinking of a taco-sloppy Joe. Make ground meat and onions...peppers if you have them, too...add whatever you normally do to make them taco-y - such as spices, salsa, whatever you like, maybe a little tomato product of some sort if you normally have dry meat for tacos, or not, and when it's fully cooked and not liquidy, the same as for tacos, you serve it on a hamburger bun, or whatever you'd eat a hamburger on. Voila! For the full taco experience, just add cheese and lettuce, plus whatever you normally like...tomato, onion, avocado, salsa, etc. Since the can get fresh items on Saturday, like lettuce, it really works. They also missed making regular hamburgers last week, so over 1 week or so, those would both be good choices. He's got 3 bakery buns in the freezer for ddil. Perfect! :-) Notice how my mind is already going a mile a minute?
The downside, as I'm sure that you've guessed, is using the extra that we all have put aside, but this is a good use for it. Because we want the extra in the house for if there's a reason that we can't get it from the store, like another storm, or illness, etc. we will slowly get our stock back up from April on.
Hopefully, the name tag will arrive soon.
That's so true with not having a car. Though, you want to keep stocked anyway, like you've been doing. Look what just happened with the storm. The shelves were cleared of food for people and pets, no mail was getting through to order any, etc.
Oops, the sunlight in here just faded down to nothing. Clouds came in. I know that we're supposed to get rain by tonight, but it may not wait.
Meanwhile, we have an excavator here working on the tank...again. I'm hoping that it will be done and stay done this time. They came today because things have dried out. Hopefully, it will wait to rain until he's done, sheesh!
Have a great day!
