During this past year the BBC opened their programming up to the US. I joined and love it. In fact I've been addicted to the BBC since the 1960s. Not because of any one but myself. PBS locked me in with Dr Who 1963? but I have educated myself by listening to the BBC on Radio - especially over Public Radio Stations.
Sidenote 1: The other radio programs I listened to were Baseball games. 8-)
Sidenote 2: I also listened for years to the CBC - that's Canadian Broadcasting Company. which also had radio programing of their own.
Back to BBC Sounds - Which over the past two weeks has played the Series "McLevy." A program based on the 6 Books by David Ashton.
These books were inspired by the real-life memoirs of one of Scotland's first policemen. James McLevy. I just looked on Amazon and there is a paperback going for $308.92 ROFLOL. It appears there is now a rush on these books. LOL
McLevy was a detective in mid 19th century. he was born 1796 died 1875. He was the "first?" writer of mystery stories and influenced ACDoyle - yep that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
After listening to these programs I can see the influence in Sherlock stories. There is a few other crossovers between McLevy and Doyle in Education for example. McLevy had 2220 cases over a 30 year career.
The program McLevy on BBC Sounds has terrific voice actors. With the story covering 13 Episodes of a dozen or more programs is a continuous tale in itself. And these actors do a fantastic job portraying the times.
The beginning Police forces were uncontrolled and no-holds-barred aggression. The current police problems seem very reflective of the past.
So there is my review of this fascinating man who used his head and not his brawn unless necessary. He detected.
So yes, I will be adding David Ashton's books: "Shadow of the Serpent, Fall from Grace, A trick of the Light, Nor will he sleep."
