I remember when I got to the age of wanting a hope chest. My mother wasn't going to go too far with it, but I eventually got a footlocker for some occasion. Don't remember my age.
I put special things in it, plus the usual hope chest items. It made it up to here, but then it just disappeared. I think oldest had something to do with it. Nothing else was removed from that shed.
The items weren't anything that anyone would have wanted. My 'hope chest stuff' had been taken out years before. There was a pair of jeans that I wanted, of Dh's, that I had been patching, some stuffed animals of the kids', and most importantly, to me anyway, a hat made from newspaper that my grandfather had folded for me when I was 4 or 5. Who would want that? Besides, it was so old by then, that I'm sure that the newspaper wouldn't have held up to anything but the most careful touch.
I love trunks, and collected them myself from my 20's on. How neat the ones that you have sound, with special contents.
Too many things not in your grasp. That in itself is sad. I'm glad for anything that you...and me too, for that matter...still have.
