Yes, pigeons and doves are a little cloddy around regular bird feeders, and they do cost more to feed.
I used to go to a local feed store, when we lived in L.A., and bought bulk field peas for the wild pigeons. (vs. our pets. We had some 'fancy' show pigeons that someone didn't want anymore, and also that were in the pound, of all places. Ann St. I had a giant white, some feather-legged-fan-tails, and others. They were great, but they got a complete food, because they weren't out foraging. Mine lived in our aviaries.) It was healthy, sold in bulk, and saved me money. The small birds leave it alone because it's too big for them, and usually the larger birds go for them first, so with enough of them, they might leave the smaller birds' seeds alone. Maybe. Hopefully!
Wow, that's hot! Our nights here seem to get low, no matter what the daytime temperature is. Saturday, which got to 119 it was 70 at midnight, but by dawn it was 60. I'm sorry that it was that hot so late. That sounds like L.A. during a heatwave.
