The USS Arizona was sunk at the beginning of the Pearl harbor attack.
The USS Missouri was placed at Pearl Harbor at the ending of the War. It was where the Japanese surrendered.
These two ships are the symbolic start & finish of WWII.
My ExH's brother died at Pearl Harbor in the attack and is buried there.
My Dad was in the Navy so every time we could tour Naval ships, he took us.
My brother served on the KittyHawk during Vietnam when the Race Riot happened.
WWII was always in my Dad's mind. I have seen every war movie made about WWII and many about Vietnam.
Being born in '46 meant WWII was still fresh in everyone's minds. I was raised on war movies. My brother was born 6 years later and he was impacted more by Vietnam and the Riot on the Kitty Hawk.
Amazing how history impacts a family's members differently. Five years made a big difference in my outlook vs my brother's. Plus my second brother was also in the Navy in Vietnam and stationed in Japan.
Plus I knew people who were victims of both wars. It hurt their lives - no matter which war they experienced. Horrible, Horrible times.
Unfortunately they are still happening around the world.
