The bulbs tend to sprout at a certain time, no matter what. Or else, if it's not their sprouting time, will dry out or get soft, if too much time goes by without them being planted.
How long do you want to store them for?
Keep them cool, dry, and out of light. Do you have any old onion bags to put them in for air circulation? Some people use the legs from hose.
You can plant them closer together then they tend to say. We plant ours 3" apart in all directions. That allows for a 6" onion to grow. Maybe that will get more planted at once?
So, how would Kara like some onions planted at her place? Actually, they don't take a lot of work, just watering. Just saying!
