We had a much cooler week this week. Nights were in the low to high 30's, except for one, and until Thursday the days were 70's/80's. Then, on Thursday and Friday, it was 91.
Next week looks to be similar, and there's a good chance of rain tomorrow, but we are only supposed to get 1/10th of an inch or less.
Because it's been so cold, we've had our heater on at night. When it's 30's out, it reaches low 50's inside. But, the last time that I bought heater fuel was last spring. I don't think that we have more than 2-6 days worth left, so we need to call and see what the price has gone to, and decide how much to get at this time. They had predicted a huge price hike, but maybe that didn't happen.
It did rain here one night, around 3 in the morning, but it literally rained, hard, for less than 2 minutes. Sheesh!
Have you ever had things that use batteries all need them at once? It doesn't happen often, but it did this week. I need to replace my alarm batteries weekly, but at the same time, I couldn't read my thermometer easily, so had to replace it's batteries. Then, my camera battery needed charging, and even my T.V. remote needed batteries! It made me grateful that I only needed to swap them out and recharge them all, since I use rechargables 95% of the time, which saves a lot of $, and keeps me from throwing them away all the time. (Well, sending them to hazmat.)
Ds is not having much luck with my reader. He's thinking that it's too old now to use updated software. He'll continue trying when he has time, but it's not looking good, sports fans. So, I'm thinking that I should be looking ahead to Christmas, or my birthday, to getting another.
It was an animal week here this week. The deer are back in force, both day and night. We see them because they've been in the open eating fallen acorns. And, one of the does who has a nearly grown fawn, now also has a much smaller fawn. I didn't expect that at this time of year.
We watched Speedy Gonzales (what I think is a marten or fisher.) every other night. He never varies still, either his speed to route.
The blue jays were back for a couple of days, telling everyone what they thought. As if something was really bothering them, but I don't know what.
But then, the crows did the same, the following day. They were acting as if someone (human or critter.) was disturbing their nest, or blocking food. Strange.
And, finally, one afternoon I saw a critter running on the road. I couldn't see it well, but it was pretty big, and dark. I said that it could be a dog, or even a bear. It was gone pretty fast.
That night, Krypto began barking at the front door, which has never happened.
A short while later, the road bell went off, and Dh was standing near the screen, so he looked, and said, "Hey, that's a bear on the road!"
So, I have to assume that the animal that I had seen earlier, and what Krypto was barking at, were all the bear.
Later, Ds was working on a friend's property. This man's family has been well-known here for generations, and he's quite a bit older than we are, which is saying something. And, he lives right across the creek and over a small hill from us. Anyway, he said that he's seen a lot more bears than usual this year. I still think that they are displaced by fires, as well as forced to move due to low water.
Well, that's about all from this neck of the woods. How was your week?
