Then, he smelled or heard something that we didn't, and was up all the night before. (Later, we found animal evidence...maybe a raccoon or bear?)
So, he was already hyped up when we all got up, and Dh was an unhappy camper because he was all mouth. We *found* 7 teeth last week, so there are *at least* 7 new ones coming in, and he seems to have no control suddenly. He is grabbing cardboard that we're opening, turns his head sideways, and doing serious chewing. And, none of that was the problem.
Oh, and it began to rain. He already isn't sure about the new wet stuff, but with this %^#@! fear period, he's actually nervous - which he wasn't when he heard it coming down before - at the sound, etc. Not this way.
That's just the set up. Ds and Frankie came over to work on one of our doors, and it was like holding onto a wild dog all. day. long.
I'm going to skip the details, but I assure you that it was bad.
How bad? I went to Amazon and ordered some calming chews. I just picked the one with the best reviews, and bought them. Not only was it very bad for all of us, but it wasn't good for Krypto, either.
When Ds left, everyone was exhausted. So exhausted that the youngster ate, then went to sleep, and stayed that way until this morning.
And...he was perfect for the 1st 1/2 of the day today. You could see what a great adult dog he will be. Nothing unusual at all. As the day wore on, he got back to himself, which is fine. But, Ds came by for something on his way home. We won't go there.
I'm forming a theory. Yes, a lot of factors came together - no sleep, teething heavily and suddenly again, rain - he's still not sure that he likes it, fear period, etc. etc. Oh, and he has an obsession with Ds. All the dogs have, but that was when he lived here.
Okay, do you remember what happened with his first food? He became super hyper. Then, when we changed to this food, it was as if a light switch was flipped. He was as calm as any pup.
Well, the food, as far as I can tell, is still fine. But...
He gets to lick the small containers when we feed the cats. He has to sit back, and wait patiently, but then he gets to lick them. They are small, there's just a teeny amount of 'gravy' at the bottom as the cats get 99% of it, but because I'm trying to put weight on Mamou, he gets several throughout the day, then Uhura gets a couple, and then Henry.
He's been licking them for weeks (we hold it down, he takes 2 or 3 licks, then we take it to where our recyclables go.), but the amount of containers per day has increased. I'm wondering if something in them is doing what the old dog food did?
It won't be easy to change, and not let him have them. Maybe I can wash a few out, then add something that he is allowed to have to the bottom?
I'm way too tired to think it through tonight, but I am wondering.
Oh, one *more* thing. He was 'sick' and having to go out a lot that day...rain or not. I'm sure that stressed him out, but he had maybe eaten something...he grabs at weeds, hay with chicken droppings, etc. *sigh*...and had discolored and soft to runny stools. That on top of everything else. (I'm considering a basket muzzle for walks. I have no idea what some of these plants that he's grabbing at are. They came in with heavy equipment.
As far as Ds goes, maybe I should try the calming chews when he visits anyway! Sheesh! Frankie was so annoyed with him that he wouldn't play, and snapped at him.
Anyway, that's part of it. It was like visiting an alternate reality all day long, after a long night before. And, that reality hurt Dh's back. He's already got a sinus infection that he's on meds for.
Like I said, not the best day...
