The best thing is I hung them under a large Oak limb to keep them dry from most rain showers.
The squirrels have been most entertaining this week for they are hanging upside down from the limb. The back claws embedded in the bark.
They can just reach the seeds & peanuts in the trays. Although they occassionally fall into the tray. Its a riot.
They sit there stuffing their cheeks, disappear for a few moments, then return to hang again.
Their bodies sway as they reach down grab a peanut, in the shells of course, or sunflower seeds, etc.
The youngster doesn't try the upside down trick yet. I have 2 small lids I fill with seeds and peanuts.
Sometimes one of them hears or scents something and they all scatter up into the tree. If nothing shows up they all scamper back to the previous spots.
They had an audience today, a number of black headed Vultures were checking the squirrels out. There were 4 of them hunched over and skulking on the more or less bare branches amid what ever leaves were still there.
I still have that poor lonely Sparrow. It feeds put back...and hangs out with the Cardinals in the RedTip bushes out front.
Otherwise it flies between the 5 houses trees, lots of woody areas, and calls & calls & calls. It sounds sooo sad.
But the Eagles are never far away. Often when I step outside one of the zooms out of my trees to an area across the road.
The doves feed here, as do a number of tiny song birds. I haven't found anymore poor dead birds. Thank goodness. Nor any feathers, the l a st ones I found were a number that might have come from a wing. They were lying on the ground in perfect order. Sigh!
It rained here the last four days. Some patches of drizzle but most just plain old rain and clouds. Plus chilly. Today going to 60s and suns out so I have done 4 loads of laundry. It will be warm enough for it all to dry on the line. I love hanging clothes. Charlie does also for that means...BALL TIME!
Well thats it for today. The suns out and everything is so clean.
Have a great day!
