Actor Paul Newman was No. 19 on a list of 20 names that appeared in the White House memo. Notes written next to Newman's name, presumably written by President Nixon himself read: "Radical lib causes. Heavy McCarthy involvement in ’68. Used effectively in nationwide T.V. commercials. ’72 involvement certain." Newman called being on Nixon’s enemies list, "the highest single honor I've ever received."
