You could say that as I train Charlie by treating him like a human... I was treated like an adult.
But reading was my love and it was greatly encouraged.
I became the tallest in all my classes. Skinny and gangly. When I turned 11 and we moved to MI...is when I finally discovered my need for a place of solitude, i.e. the lightning struck giant Oak Throne in the woods between the neighborhood and farm land.
Peanut butter & jelly? YUCKO!!!
Thin Mints 1st & 2nd. I was a Girl Scout for years. So ate them all. LOL PEanut butter was 3rd.
Yes, they have changed. The Thin mints are not the same. But I buy them anyway... and freeze them. 8-)
Radio - Texaco Met Opera on Sat afternoons. All types of music but especially Classical, Soundtracks from Plays, and everything from during the War!
I used to play Ravel's Bolero at high volume if my parent left me along on a sat while they and my brothers shopped. I also opened the windows and doors. The neighbors never complained.
The teachers had us rotate classroom chores. Boys got to wipe down the blackboards, desk lids & chairs. Girls dusted and swept but we all cared for the classroom critters. Usually frogs or fish.
Girls also go to hand out workbooks. In my Kindergarten class there was a boy named Patrick - blonde like me. He had a crush on me. LOL
Games - Jump rope, swings, Hopscotch, etc.
Yes on Water fountains. My school was in the East and was a big brick affair with many floors. as you grew up you walked to a floor higher then you were on. Lots of stairs, big windows.
In NJ I was dropped off or my Mother walked me to school. In MI I walked my brother to his class. I had walked alone before he turned 5yo. I was ll as my birthday is in Dec. I was always almost a year older then the students I went to school with. Annoying!
Oh and no markets.
I was an A student until we moved to CA. The problem was the schools in MI & NJ were ahead in what was taught. So I aced the first year in CA. 2nd year not so much. Plus CA was overwhelming. I was going to school with some of the Mickey Mouse Club members. Plus I was taller then most of the boys in school. High School was better and my grades were back up. I walked or rode the bus to HS.
I was an Art English Major loved history - hated math. We had English, Spanish, HomeEc, Choir, Art, Gym, Study Hall, Math, Political Science, Science - I can't remember any others.
I loved the school library & the town library.
I found my footing in Collage and back to being a A student. Art/English Philosophy Major with Archeology. Loved Collage! Santa Monica City College 2 Semesters ther. Went back to college El Camino College In Beach Cities. But 2nd semester I was taken down by MS which meant no more ART. After that I Self Educated and have never stopped.
