I watched a show on how Pepperidge Farm came about. It was a woman who's son was not healthy, and he needed better food. This was at a time when white flour, pre-fortified, was being used. People were becoming diseased.
She had never baked, but was determined to make her son nutritious bread. She had a lot of failures, not being a baker. Eventually, though, she did it.
Her son's Dr. asked if she'd sell some loaves to his other sickly patients, and she did.
But, soon became overwhelmed because so many people wanted it.
She finally was able to figure out how to produce more loaves, and sell to stores.
However, the govt. tried to get her to disclose her secrets, and she stood right up to them, refusing. It was a great hour, on the History Channel. Love that channel! :-)
