I was up late one night recently, and there wasn't much on - mostly infomercials. But, there were a couple of shows about buying and flipping houses, so I watched them.
They showed what they were doing in them to make them more interesting to buyers, so that they would ultimately make a profit.
Most was not impressive, some was downright aggravating (who would take $10,000 less profit because they thought that having a fireplace is 'dated?'), but some was interesting.
If you were using someone elses money and wanted to make a house really nice:
What color would you make most of the walls?
The kitchen cabinets?
The decking?
What type of sinks would you put in bathrooms? Kitchen?
And, what would you put on the steps to the 2nd and 3rd floors?
In the show that I watched...
They made most of the walls gray, adding boldly patterned tiles as back splashes and in the bathrooms. Mostly black and white.
The kitchen cabinets were likewise dark gray.
The decking, which had been stained wood color was restained, for a huge cost, blue.
They destroyed the new looking bathroom counters with the double sinks, and replaced the kitchen sink with a farm kitchen sink.
The steps had been carpeted, so they removed it and put tile on them.
There was more, but those are highlights. What do you think?
