We had some freezing temperatures, low daytime temperatures, and rain - over 5". But, I don't see rain forecast now for the next 10 days. The frogs are loving it.
It was too cold and too wet to do certain things this week, and Ds still doesn't have his truck fixed - the parts came in today, so we worked on other projects. Dh did some weeding between rains, and I'm drawing the kitchen garden bed, to plan what will, and won't fit.
I also got an unexpected shopping trip for vegetables. I've been holding off on many items lately, but a small windfall allowed me to take advantage of a sale today. Our small, local market, where I like to buy about 80% of my produce, had a one day sale of 22% off all produce. I don't know why...wait, maybe for Earth Day? Whatever the reason, I was able to take advantage of it.
They didn't have 2 of the items on my list, but I got the rest, hooray!
Now, I'm trying to make a menu for what I got. For example, if I can get some chicken, I will make chicken pot pie, and so forth.
Other items are kind of stand-alone, such as candied carrots, which go with many things.
But, most of it...the celery, greens, and more, will be sauteed in just olive oil, with salt, then frozen in portions to use in fried rice, soups, or what-have-you, over the next month or two. And, the bits, like the bottom and tops of the celery, will be frozen raw to make broth from.
Which means, I will need to spend a lot of time this weekend washing and chopping it all. Then, I will cook it, and the following day bag, and freeze it. I'm not complaining, as the previous frozen vegetables helped get us through the last 3 months.
Has anyone else been getting robo-calls? I'm suddenly getting a lot of them. I used to get ones asking me to donate to fallen police officers and firemen (which our police warned us is a scam.) now and then, but now I get ones about my Google advertising - which I don't have, and one which can come in multiple times a day, which is about my car warranty. Another thing that I don't have.
Well, I have brown sugar and bread to make, and vegetables to start cutting! I will probably do the most perishable first, which would be the greens. I was luckly enough to get 6 bunches. Sometimes they don't have them, or only have sad looking ones.
How was your week?
