We had a real mixed bag this week. It got really hot for a couple of days - 98 one day. Then, the next day, the high was 54, and there were rain clouds. That night it rained, and we had some rain yesterday, on and off, but it didn't amount to much, and didn't get out of the 60's on Friday. Currently, it's lightly raining again.
They say that we will have a chance of showers tomorrow, and some days next week, but not with much rain actually falling. Also, the nights are going to go from the 50's, back down to mid-very low 30's.
The frogs are happy, though, lol! On Wednesday, we had to help out 3 frogs. We haven't had one slip in since.
Our garlic is looking good. We planted some a few months ago in a small patch.
Krypto is happy, having toys again. I can't believe that they all needed to be replaced at once. I will tell you now that having an energetic pup without chew toys is dicey, at best! So really, we are all happier. Although, I had forgotten that his Gnawsome ball was soooo loud when it was new! We got the first one when he was 3 months old, so that was a while ago. But, I remember it now! Shrill and loud! Hopefully, he will make it quieter soon, like he did his original, which is still fine to play with, just getting a little soft and misshapen.
We really liked the pupcakes, especially after adding cocoa to the leftover batter. I'm considering making a batch for the freezer, since I now have 1/2 of a jar of applesauce left.
Thyri is responding well to her antibiotics, thankfully.
She's learning new things, like how to make turkey sounds. There have been turkeys in their yard for the past few days, and she heard a big tom gobbling. She's getting good at it, lol!
She has been baking her piece of cloth pizza aka her party favor, in her little toy oven.
Ds's truck still is waiting for another part, argh. But, his boss lent him an old car, which allows him to, at least, get to jobs with some equipment. That way he doesn't leave ddil without a car, in case of an emergency.
How old is it? Well, old enough that it made the highway patrol suspicious and they pulled him over! All was well, of course. I'm actually surprised that the boss even had this car. He's more of a new car...new everything...kind of person. But, it's coming in handy, and allowing Ds to get some work done.
PG&E has gone crazy to get rid of trees before fire season, which sounds like a good thing, but....
First, the eagle story. They can't cut down every tree that they want to, so a small percent will be cut, and most will not. So, they targeted a tree near a town north of here which is where a pair of bald eagles have a nest, and raise a baby each year. People said to take other trees, and eventually they won.
Well, last month a baby was born, and he's growing like a weed. They are born a few ounces, and gain about a pound a week, so he's now 4.something pounds.
Meanwhile, PG&E, who always have the right to cut trees along their power line easements, decided to cut any tree that could reach their lines, even if that is 150' from the lines, and at someone's home.
So far, they have pretty much clearcut some areas, leaving everything on the ground aside from useable wood, which they get to take away, without compensating the property owners. There have already been cases of people's trees being cut when they weren't at the power lines.
They started coming out here a few weeks ago, and told Dh that a bill was passed allowing them to do whatever they want. We checked, the bill has not passed.
Their letter stated that they will not clean up any mess that they make, even if it creates a fire hazard, will not restore any roads that their tired vehicles destroy, and that they can take the marketable wood without compensating the land owner.
They won't even get enough trees removed to be a drop in the bucket. What they need to be putting their time and effort into, is putting the lines underground. Where I grew up, all of the lines in my area were underground, and still are. They do not cause fires, or fall in winds etc.
Yesterday, the tree service hired to cut the trees for them called us and said that they want to cut 50 of our trees, and wanted to walk the property with him. 50?! We told the man the following:
A - That our son, who is a surveyor (he knows the property lines, has the right of way deeds, etc.) would walk with him this coming week.
B - Since the bill did *not* pass, that they may not just cut willy nilly whatever they want. He admitted that when you cut one tree, it snags and pulls down others with it, so 50 trees isn't really only 50 trees. That it ends up more like a clear cut, with us being financially responsible for cleaning their mess up afterwards, which we can't afford. So far, no one's been able to. It's going to all be a terrible fire hazard, once it dries up.
So, we'll see what happens on Thursday.
Well, I'm hoping to be productive today. How was your week?
