Kenzi's loss hit us hard. She went from jumping at squirrels in the yard to being able to get up off the floor. this happened in about two weeks. The first thing I noticed is that she was a bit gimpy on her right rear leg. I just figured she had stepped on something and would get better. I did not see any injury, and she did get better. Then, she started having trouble with both of her back legs. That is when we headed to the vet. He thought maybe she had a bit or arthritis and put her on an advil that is compatible with dogs. After a couple of days of that, we took her back in. He did x-rays, an ultrasound, and bloodwork. He expressed concern that she seemed thinner, but the scales did not say that. He said he could feel her ribs. The results were a bit alarming. Her bloodwork was off, but the x-rays looked good. The ultrasound showed spots on her liver and spleen, and he wanted an ultrasound expert to check them out. She progressively got worse. On Thursday morning, the 21st, she met me at the gate and eagerly when outside. That night she went downhill, and the next morning, she could not even get up. We managed to get her to the car, and the vet put her to sleep in the back of the Escape. When she saw him, she got excited and even got up in a sitting position, but he knew she was not going to recover. We put her to sleep and had her cremated. The roughest part is that we didn't even have time to realize she was ill. I just know she is chasing squirrels and waiting with others at the Bridge.
