We haven't called the sheriff's dept. for nearly a year, but we'd read an article that said to call if you see people flying drones around houses, and they've been used to preceed burglaries.
Pretty much the same deputy that was not doing their job last year, blew it off.
Then, yesterday, Ds came to look for a tool in his old lab, and said that the gate was open at the old house, and that a screen was off of a window, and the window was slid open, though they hadn't breeched the wood behind it.
Since Ds was in the house on Sunday, and it was fine, it had to have happened Mon., Tues., or Wed.
Why didn't we know? We have zone alarms and a camera there.
Then, it occured to me...when have I last heard the alarm down at the house? 4 weeks? I hear the road alarm, and the driveway alarm, but there's been no house alarm recently.
I checked my dates, and they are all due for their annual recharging in a few weeks. The house alarms died sooner than the others? Ds said that he'd bring them up for recharging by tomorrow.
Meanwhile, last night, he came up and we checked the camera footage for the week. It tapes over after about a week.
Nothing on Monday. Then, on Tuesday, as 2:30 in the afternoon, a guy with a red backpack and a white thing (part of a sheet?) over his head, was caught on film on the road cam, coming up from the tracks, and walking across the road to the house.
We switched to the house down there's camera, and watched as he had gone to the door, then the side of the house to take the screen off of the window, etc.
Suddenly, he spooked. He whipped his head up this way, picked up a heavy stick, and left. He came back in a little while, then left again.
My theory is that Krypto began barking. He's not down there, and he wasn't outside, but he's got a loud bark. That probably wouldn't work again, once anyone figured out that a dog doesn't have access to that yard, but still...
We thought, at first, before watching the film, that it might have been the guy with the drone, being the very next day, but it wasn't. The drone guy was very, very white skinned, and this guy definitely was not. No one could get a tan in one day like that.
He seemed strangely out of it. We are putting our bets on having a mental illness, and/or being loaded on something. A combination is likely, from what we saw.
Also, he had pretty good weight on him, and walked strangely. He may have a bum leg, or again, was not fully sober.
Ds got some lock alarms for his truck a week ago, and they don't fit it. So, he said that we can put them on the doors down there, and a couple of the windows.
They come with a remote to turn them off because...who would go down at night if someone was trying to break in?
I'm going to take snips from the footage, and send it to a deputy that gave me his email to send a photo to many months ago. He didn't get back to me that time, but I'm hoping that I get a better response this time.
