Yes, we were under what was called a 'dress code' when I went to school. It was not just expected that girls wore dresses, but mandatory.
I remember the changeover from no air conditioning, to air conditioning, also. Stores had big, black ceiling fans, but no AC back then. None in schools throughout my school years, none in our original cars, etc.
My mother's family had a fan-like thing that you put in the window by rolling the window down enough to hold it. Driving turned the blades and gave some cool air. That was in the 30's or 40's.
We had the only home AC that I knew of, when we bought our house. It was a 'home of the future' which was all-electric aside from the hot water heater, and had AC in it, a dishwasher, and an intercom system. It didn't cost more, it was just an idea that the person who designed the houses of the area had.
I was lucky. With my over-heating issues, one of the AC units was in the wall of my bedroom. It wasn't used all that much, except for a couple of weeks in the summer when it got really hot.
Has there been snow in your state this weekend? I saw a clip from Beech Grove...I think that was it...and could have sworn that I saw flakes of snow falling!
