Just as younger people are meant to raise children, perhaps once we are empty nesters, we are meant to step back from certain tasks, such as full, classic, holiday meals from scratch.
When I look back, I remember older women turning the meal-making over to the next generation, or modifying things.
For example, creating family potluck, so that they don't make the whole meal, just a couple of items such as roasting the turkey or making a ham, and maybe one side.
Or, if family wants to come over, I've seen lots of people change the meal. For example, take out, such as Chinese, tamales, a huge bag of Taco Bell, KFC, or some pizzas brought in.
Or, making a single dish such as spaghetti, fried chicken, or lasagna...even frozen.
No oven, absolutely. And, in my case, no kitchen to speak of. The space is there, but...! Aren't we a pair?
