Yes, being more hydrated. If I don't, my skin gets dry. This is new in my older age.
Eating foods high in vitamin E can help, or perhaps taking supplements. Sometimes supplements are 50% off at Vitacost, Currently, there's a 15% off sale. If you sign up for their emails, you will know when it's 50% off, which is monthly, approx.
1 oz. of sunflower seeds will give you 2/3 of your daily requirement, too.
1 T. of wheat germ oil will give you 135% of your daily value.
Vitamin E is good for your skin, vision, and immune system. Some studies also seem to show that it prevents or slows cognitive decline, depending on what type, and that it may help with heart function.
Topical things also help.
I like to put 'stuff' on my skin when it's still damp from bathing. You want to lock in moisture, as well as keep weather from drying skin. There are two ways to go about that, that I've tried.
First, to put a light oil on my skin when it's damp. That is nice, and can actually penetrate the skin. I like sunflower based vitamin E oil. It can be mixed with another light oil to get better coverage, and be more cost effective. I have used grapeseed oil, because it's very light, for example.
Then, you can add a slightly heavier lotion/cream. Those work well to prevent environmental drying. I like cocoa butter based lotions/butters (I make my own, so can't give you any brand names.), or olive oil based.
I try to dry brush skin before bathing and adding some type of oil to my skin. Though, a wet brush with anything from loofas to other body brushes work as well. You want to remove dead skin before tending to the newer layer.
Also, you can do a face or body scrub. If you choose that, homemade ones are easy, cost-effective, and don't have chemicals in them. I would add that salt based scrubs are not as good for dry skin as sugar-based ones. And, like honey, sugar will draw moisture to your skin, which is a good thing.
Well, that's really all that I ever do. Remove dead skin, apply something to moist skin, try to drink enough, and use vitamin E internally.
Good luck!
