Today Ds came over, and into the house, for the first time in nearly a month since they got sick. He wanted to see about getting those 2 batteries hooked up - which didn't end up happening - so that I can save a little gas, at least.
While here, he fooled with the wi-fi mabob, and got it to work!
So, I immediately began downloading my books. I got quite a few downloaded, maybe 50? Imagine everything that you've read being archived online, and downloading some of them.
The problem is, that I wasn't sure which ones were read, completed, etc. in some cases. So, I chose some of my faves, especially those that were a series of books by the same author, and some that I knew that I haven't yet read, as well as some that you want always available, such as recipes, and so forth.
It was like Christmas!
I had downloaded as many as I'm going to for now, so we put away the wi-fi-mabob, and I went to look through the books.
However, then my entire reader was all wrong. Where were my koi fish? (My background is water with 5 koi of different colors that I can 'feed' by tapping on the screen.) In their place was a pixelated, greyish, snow drift. I think.
Then, I went to my library, and while the icon was there, it was gray and I couldn't access my books.
The same with my crossword games.
In fact, the only thing that I could access was my gallery. Aka, photos of Thyri that Ds loaded onto the reader a year ago. I'm happy to have them, a different one is displayed every time that I open the book, but I also wanted my books, games, and fish!
So, I called Ds, hoping that I'd catch him before they went to get ddil's MRI. Luckily, that happened.
He said to 'Restart' it, vs. other options. Like my laptop, rebooting cures a lot of ills.
However, that's when I discovered that it was in 'Safe Mode' even though I put it. And, I couldn't restart it.
We tried several things, and to spare you what I went through, I'll just say that it finally did restart. After the 2nd restart, I swiped Thyri's photo, as always, and there were my ultra-realistic koi fish! Hooray! And, my library and games, upon checking! Whew!
I know that I'm eclectic in my choices of books, though I always seem to have at least one mystery going, but until you see a lot of your books at once, you can forget.
I found in my books:
Lots of mysteries.
Cookbooks.
Herbal Books.
Children's Books to read with Thyri.
Non-fiction misc.
Political Misc., such as 1st mothers (mothers of the presidents.), and one on the Whitehouse.
I also noticed patterns. For example, quite a few of my books have cats or dogs in them.
Also, I have several of certain authors, such as Nora Roberts, Debbie Macomber, Janet Evanovich, and others whose names escape me. Such as the woman who wrote/writes the series on the southern woman who has the pet skunk and lives with the ghost of a mobster because she accidentally poured his ashes into her roses.
Also, I have some time period novels. A series set in San Francisco during Sherlock Holmes' time, and a series of books about a family in Scotland back when.
Oh, and don't forget Christmas books!
(Paten, I even have 1 of the Amelia books!)
So now, I need to choose. As I go, I'll have to see if I have started a book yet, read part of it, or finished it, in which case I can archive it.
