I got some gloves which are fingerless, to allow me to type. They aren't super warm, and I think it's because they need to be made from another, warmer material. A small heater sounds better!

We have the same idea. We have a wood burner for the future, but just for emergencies.

I think that it was a good idea of yours. Wood can be a lot of work.
