Answer: Georgia O'Keeffe was a modernist artist known for her paintings of enlarged flowers, skyscrapers, and New Mexico landscapes. Considered the "mother of American modernism," O'Keeffe moved to New Mexico after her husband's death and was inspired by the landscape to create numerous well-known paintings. Her paintings of the sculpted badlands, adobe structures, and mountains north of Santa Fe solidified her reputation as one of the 20th century’s most influential artists. Tales of her solo explorations through the desert, in search of a place to set her easel, made her a cultural icon.
