We had a rainy, cold week. While there were a couple of days that were pleasant for an hour or so, mostly it was cold - 40's during the days, and 20's - 30's at night. We had 3" of rain before the weekend this week over 4 days...some 1/2", one nearly 2".
This weekend and coming week, we are expecting even colder night temps., and rain for all but 2 days between now and next Thursday. Some days 1/2" or less, a couple of days between 1"-2".
We watched the pileated woodpecker again this week. There were a pair of them...male and female, and they stripped the madrone trees of their berries. I didn't even know that they ate madrone berries. But, madrones have to be really large to have berries. That's one of the reasons that they need old growth forests, I imagine.
It seems like it's been a long week, yet at the same time I can't believe that it's Saturday again already. Just a lot of things happening, I guess, and I didn't even read much this week, except for Dh and my reading time together.
Then again, I have recorded quite a few Christmas movies, plus a couple of non-Christmas movies. 'Tis the season. Mostly they are from Hallmark channel from this year, but there are a couple from other channels, plus a few classic Christmas cartoons, such as the original Rudolph.
Also, there are some regular television shows playing their Christmas episodes. I have 2 Quantum Leaps which are Christmas themed, for example.
I am soooo glad to have my road camera back! Whew!
This week, for a couple of days, it was like daylight through the night outside, because of the full moon.
It turned out that I couldn't wrap my gifts last weekend, as I didn't have the paper and such. Last night Ds gave me the bags that he had of mine, so that will take care of part of it. He may also have my paper, so hopefully it will come here this weekend, as well. I'd like to get theirs done, so that they can enjoy seeing them under their tree.
My hummingbirds are still out and eating in the cold. Today, they were eating in the rain...albeit the lighter times of rain. The feeder is underneath an overhang, but if there's wind - and there is - they can get wet anyway. I wonder if their metabolism slows down a bit in the cold? There are no flowers out, and they aren't at the feeder as often as they are during warmer weather.
With the rain, we've been keeping Krypto active in the house - mind and body. One of his favorite games, aside from fetch with his nubby ball, is to bring his leash when he's going out. To make him think, we toss it on the ground in random places, then tell him to bring it. He runs and finds it, then picks it up and trots quickly to Dh and gives it to him. Then, they leash up and go outside. He *Loves* to do that.
Earlier in the week, Henry was in his crate to eat, and for us to clean the litter (we make sure that they coincide, so that he's crated while the door is left open to carry litter in and out etc., since he's an indoor-only cat.), and I saw Krypto chasing Uhura.
They were running full out from the far end of the kitchen, to the back of the living room, repeat, repeat, repeat. I was confused because they never play that way. Uhura does play with him, they're buddies, but she never runs full out and let him chase. A - He can catch her in the house, and B - her instinct is to turn and play, or else smack him, depending on her mood.
I told Dh to come and look at Krypto playing with Uhura, and he assured me that Uhura had gone outside. That's when the possibility of it being Henry came to us. I guess that one black streak looks a lot like another when it's moving that fast. Do you remember when 4-5 month old Krypto learned to push and lift the metal closure thingy, to help Henry escape? Well, apparently he remembered how to do it.
Unlike Uhura, Henry had fun running full out, back and forth throughout the house, and having his dog chase him. But, that's not the end of the story.
Because doors were stopped open for cleaning purposes, we had to catch Henry, who was too excited from having a wildly good time, and put him back in his crate to finish eating and keep him safely inside until the litter was finished, and the doors were closed again. But, he wanted to continue zooming around.
I've joked for months that Krypto had learned to herd cats...you know the saying, 'It's like herding cats!'? Well, Dh sent him around, and he went the other way, and between them, they *did* herd a cat! Krypto has been honing his skills for months now.
In the end, it was Krypto that caught his cat. He caught him, held him down, and licked and licked his face, at which time Dh just picked him up.
Ah, it's raining and I'm hearing a frog. They love the rain.
Well, that's about all for now. How was your week?
Love All Life; Thank You For Posting! :)
