In August we usually get a very light rain for a day, but not a storm. We get really excited to have rain after a dry summer, then, before you can get out in it and get wet, it's over.
We do get 'dry lightning' some years, around September. Our Australian Shepherd, Maggie, would always bark at it, even when it was over a hill. Otherwise, you could go about your business and never know that it was happening. Once alerted, you could sometimes see it if you looked in the distance, in the correct direction. No rain or thunder, though.
Yes, it is interesting to count between the lightning and thunder. Ds was doing that for Thyri. She wasn't at all sure that she liked the loud thunder, so it gave her something to think about.
