Yes, understanding and tolerance by children and adults is necessary! I've had so many autistic students and ones on the spectrum through my teaching years...and each one manifested in different ways...always a learning curve, but so necessary for classmates and new students to understand. My school, for example, tried to keep students in their classes the same as possible through the years.
