In my area, we barely get a breath, then we are pounded by heavy rains. We dumped another 5 1/2" inches from the rain gauge yesterday. We've had 6 + inches several times now, and rarely less than 2" on any given day.
There's flooding...my fields are underwater, mud and rock slides on the highways and roads, and hazardous conditions everywhere. Power lines and trees are down all over the place, etc. They had our road blocked off due to some lines down, 2 days ago.
The winds have been shocking. Ds gets them, but being on a hill, we've been getting the worst ones. I've actually never been in winds like this. I've been in what were considered heavy winds, but these are like nothing that I've experienced.
Besides rattling the house in a scary way, they've done things like pick up bricks and heavy metal that we have, and thrown them across the yard. Our current rule is to stay inside during the heavier winds. If the dog wants out...too bad. It's just not safe with bricks and heavy tree limbs flying around.
It already getting windy today. There was a roar that we are coming to know as big winds. We are supposed to have the wind until the wee hours of the morning, according to Ds.
And, it's going to rain for as far as the eye can see, which is through Monday. Who knows after that?
After a huge storm, which last a few days, we get a couple of hours break, then another storm comes in.
I saw photos of Avenue of the Giants yesterday. Where the blacktopped road should be, is just brown water that it's under. On I-5 on this end of the state, there's snow. That's probably true at the south end, too.
They say that a few people have been killed, but they will learn of more in time. A woman from 20 miles from here was in Sonoma, and a 911 call came in, then was cut off, when her car ended up in a flooded area, and it was getting into the car. She was not found alive.
A 5 year old was ripped out of his mom's arms by water, and has not been found.
Someone his a mudslide, and did not survive...probably because of the rocks in them.
Houses are being destroyed, highways are closing or partly closing, buildings are damaged...every type from homes to museums, shelters have been put up, and people are being blocked in without being able to get out to get supplies, with their sewer systems not working, and so forth. Oh, and businesses are closed due to the high water, or damage from the winds, such as trees. It's not good at all.
As for Krypto, thankfully he still looks to us for his cues. This constant battering by winds and really hard rains that won't let up have made him very nervous. Especially loud booms from wind, and the house rattling. But, if we tell him that it's okay, he will lie down with us, even if his eyes tell a different story.
I have had a box of calming chews - herbal type, for some time, just in case they were ever needed. The first week he got them a few times, but he doesn't get them now, as he's doing so much better. Besides which, I need to get more now. I have a couple left only.
He barks when startled by a loud noise from the storms...or maybe something hitting the ground from the wind, but we can stop him after a few barks.
Plus, he's not getting his long walks. He goes out quickly, and they run right back in - soaked. So, he wants to play ball (in the house.) pretty much all day and night because he needs the exercise.
Well, that's about all from here. They say that we've gotten a season's worth of rain in 2 weeks, and that's how it feels. We need some breaks so that trees can be removed, water can recede, power and power lines can be restored, etc. but, as I said, that's not happening, it's one storm behind the other.
Well, it's only lightly raining for the moment...we are between storms. My ears had to adjust to the relative quiet, which we don't have lately. It's loud pretty much 24/7. We've almost given up T.V. as we can't hear it at the loudest volume. Talking doesn't work all that well, either.
While we have this break for an hour or two, I am posting, etc.
I hope that there's better weather for the rest of you! There's no sense in everyone having bad weather.
