As you know, the weather's not letting up, except for a few hrs. 2ce in the past 9 days. Mostly though, it's pretty relentless. We should get 2 more inches today, but then we are downgrading from heavy rain to rain, and then showers. By Tuesday there may be some blue skies, giving us all a chance to dry out a little.
It's been so wet, that a teensy little baby Pacific Giant salamander was found walking on the outdoor kitchen. And, the frogs are as relentless as the rain. They sing day and night.
Of course, there's a trade-off. As the chances of heavy rain lessen, our night temperatures go from high 40's to low 50's - which has been acceptable without using the heat, to 30's. One night is supposed to be 30 next week, which probably means 20's for us. At least at the low 50's I can do things, and am not freezing. But, it's in the low 50's in the house at that point, whereas it will get down to low 40's inside if the outdoor temperatures drop. Darn.
My phone's been out for a couple of days now. We don't know why, but suspect that it's in the phone itself. It could be the lines from the rain. I guess that we will find out if it begins to dry out. It's really awful to be without a phone. Even if you don't want to use it, it's disconcerning not to have the ability to.
But, in actuality, I do a lot with Ds by phone. Whether it's letting him know that our gas, hen food, or water are low, or discussing who needs to pay what to whom. Not counting talking to Thyri each day, of course.
And, speaking of all that...this is going to make me late in earnest for my phone bill, a question to the pharmacy, our shelter and organic certification, and more. A lot of things come due in January. Luckily, some things were taken care of already, before the phone problem.
Because of the situation, I am catching up on some things here, around the house. I cut up a lot of vegetables, dusted what shouldn't even have needed to be dusted, but they did, and re-did my menus to reflect what I do and don't have. If I don't have menus, I can't make my shopping list for Ds. It's important when someone else will be the one out shopping for you, to let them know exactly what you need.
I've gone through many a month without a menu, and we just seem to eat certain things at the wrong rate, which won't get us where we need to go before shopping or cooking again.
I will be glad when the girls start laying again. If you get cage-free etc. eggs, they were $3. a doz. Then, overnight they wentt up to $5. a doz. The other day, one store had them at...are you sitting?...$9. a doz.
Now, why am I telling you this? Will I only eat organic eggs, etc.? I'd like to, but I'll use what I have to. The real point is...there aren't other eggs. One day 3 out of 4 stores didn't have eggs at any price, of any type. It's not the weather, because there was fresh meat and *some* produce. No celery, though - thank goodness for my new friend the warehouse. They carry really nice celery. I use it in Asian dishes like my noodle dish, fried rice, etc., broth, soups and stews, pot pie, etc.
Hopefully, you are having better luck with items in your markets. We sometimes do, too, but not in the past couple of weeks.
Part of my week was less productive, as I got sick for 2 days. I have no idea what caused it, but it did put me behind in the usual cleaning and sorting.
I've also done a lot of reading, writing, and game playing, as we still can't talk or watch T.V. well part of the time for the thunderous noise of the storms. I'll look forward to it being just a tad quieter this coming week, if the forecast is correct.
Well, I'm going to catch up on things before I can't get online. How was your week?
