Answer: According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the 1982 film Gandhi has the most extras in a single scene. The scene depicted Gandhi’s funeral, where approximately 300,000 extras were present. To feature the large crowd, the producers hired about 100,000 extras and paid them a fee equivalent to 40 pence each. To make the crowd even bigger, they recruited an additional 200,000 unpaid volunteers. The scene was shot on January 31, 1981, the 33rd anniversary of Gandhi’s funeral. The edited funeral scene lasted only 125 seconds.
