I'm sorry that neither Erin nor Josh are ready to accept her. Though, sometimes it's deeper for the siblings, depending on what all happened. And, as I've learned, sometimes we don't know every detail... Hopefully, they will soften with time.

That's very true. I remember reading once that when you want to listen to someone, really listen, you have to stop your automatic thoughts. They say that automatically, people who should be listening and really hearing what someone else are saying, are actually forming their rebuttal in their mind, even as the other person is speaking.

After reading that, I caught myself doing it a couple of times, and stopped myself, bringing my mind back to being present in the moment, and truly listening, though I had obviously been prepared to 'explain my position.'

So yes, she's on the right track about apologizing. Sometimes, depending on the person and circumstances, there's a place for some explanation, but I like her position with her siblings in this case.
