I had read a few of her books long ago. Some had been published in the 50s. Since I had joined Thriftbooks I was able to buy two of books and get one free.
The titles are "The Singing Sands," "A shilling for Candles," and "The Daughter of Time."
It's been a long while since I had read "The Daughter of Time." In fact I had forgotten about it altogether. Note: I am 1/3 English and family stories are quite interesting. One of these days I will have to look into them.
For "The Daughter of Time is about Richard the III, my favorite English King. When I was in high school there was a big to do about people with Scoliosis. My friend spent months in a plaster cast that was to straighten her spine. I mentions this as Richard the III had the same problem. He was not a hunchback which was proven when his skeleton was discovered under a parking lot under what had once been the "Choir of Greyfriars Church." Thus it was DNA proven the skeleton was Richards.
Back to the book - I had just picked two books by her and the 3rd book was a free one . I received them last week. This morning I picked "The Daughter Of Time" up and began to read it. The plot is one that was written before his skeleton was discovered under the parking lot and is a defense of Richard the IIIs reputation as killer of his two nephews and his being a hunchback.
It's been a long time since I have read this book.
Even before they discovered his skeleton.
Since the discovery of his skeleton history has changed about Richard. Many other facts about him have been rebuked as well.
It's a great story but if you check on line - BBC Richard the III dig: you will find the article about the discovery of his grave. Fascinating!
I highly recommend The Daughter of Time by Josephine Tey. It's great story written in defence of Richard's evil history.
It is not a big book.
Also I am also much taken by the Plantagenet dynasty blood line. For in Richard's history is another of my favorite historical persons. His name is John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster. Fascinating stuff. If you like history that is. 8-)
