I started a new book about pigeon post. It was written in 1936, and definitely has homing pigeons in it.
I have pigeon mail, which I think is very cool, so I was attracted to the name of this book. One of the Nancy Drew movies, (were there 4 of them?) made at the same time period, has pigeon's carrying messages, too. Not mail, as I have, but messages, which is still pretty cool.
I finished the trilogy that I couldn't seem to put down once started, even though I can't recommend it, and will not be reading the next mini-series of books by the same author.
In book #1, the main character was a mellow character, and the side characters were in the whole book.
In book #2, because of magical circumstances, the main character was full of physical abilities that she didn't have in the first book. The side characters, except for 2, were not around. I would have wanted some appearance from them.
By book #3, our main character was stronger in mind and body yet. They tried to soften her mental state, but couldn't quite pull it off. One of the 2 side characters which had been so important in the 1st book, and missing in the 2nd, showed back up 2/3 of the way into this last book. And, the other side character which was even more important in both the 1st and 2nd books, was missing from the third until I was 90-something percent through it.
Plus, the ending wasn't as well sewn up as I think that it could have, and should have, been. Ah well, it did keep me in them, but I'm glad to move on to something else now.
I have started both the pigeon post book, and a book about 100 Cupboards.
How was your reading week?
